Return to Play: Kinduct’s Load Scenario Tool
Our Athlete Management System has been a popular tool for coaches and trainers alike to monitor the training load of elite and professional athletes. With Kinduct, many teams and organizations track and compute a number of metrics to understand how hard and often an athlete exerts themselves. Doing so has allowed staff to quantify an athlete’s “load” and gain insight into an optimal schedule/level of exertion.
Up until recently, these data sets were dealing purely with historical data — looking back and reflecting on recent training events. But now, with our new Load Scenario Tool, you have the ability to forecast load well into the future; insight is no longer only provided by historical data, but also from a predictive model for what’s to come in an athlete’s training schedule tomorrow, next week, and even in later months.
This may come in handy especially as professional and elite level athletes return to play after an unscheduled and prolonged break due to COVID-19, but will also provide value during regular programming as well. Here’s how it works.
The Set Up
Initialize your load forecast by selecting which metrics (e.g. RPE, GPS, etc.) will contribute to an athlete’s training load. In this step, you can also attribute a weighted value to each metric.
Future load will be calculated based on an athlete’s historical data to provide comparative context for analysis.
After the metrics have been selected, step two consists of creating the schedule which will properly forecast each athlete’s total load.
By inputting this information, you and your staff can stay agile and make scheduling alterations on an individual or team basis if necessary.
With your metrics and schedule in place, you can now begin planning your athlete’s forecasted load based on a timeframe of your choosing (e.g. daily, weekly, or monthly). Our user-face allows you to try out different scenarios and schedules in order to get the optimal program for your athletes as they return to play and progress toward game-level readiness.
You also have the option to view weekly planned scenarios vs. actual results, which can add value when discussing future practices with your coaching staff. For example, maybe their idea of a “light” practice actually ended up being much heavier than planned and hindered an athlete’s recovery. With the insights our Load Scenario Tool provides, coaches have the supporting data to make adjustments to their practice plan to avoid overexertion.
Our Calendar Heatmaps are another way to visualize your forecasted loads. This feature attributes a different shade (from light yellow to dark red) to each day of the week in accordance to how “heavy” the load will be.
With the ability to forecast future load with our Load Scenario Tool, your athletes will be on the right track as soon as play begins.
