“Behind the Screen” is a spotlight series that introduces the people of Kinduct. This instalment features Duncan Addison.

What’s your role at Kinduct and how long have you been with the company?

I currently work as a Sales Development Rep (SDR). In total, I’ve been with the company for about a year and a half (which includes an internship while I was in university).

You recently moved from the Client Success team to Sales. What type of experience are you bringing to this new role?

Being a part of the Client Success team taught me a ton. It allowed me to learn the ins and outs of the platform, work closely with our clients, and further understand the importance of data consolidation and visualization.

These experiences will help me show potential clients how we can improve their data systems and athletic performance.

What did you study in university? Did that also help prepare you for the job?

I attended Wingate University, where I played varsity tennis and graduated with a BSc in Sports Management.

As an NCAA athlete, I was fortunate to experience the world of sports science first hand. It began the pursuit of the perfect daily routine. If I had a good day on the court or in the gym, I would do everything I could to replicate that formula; go to sleep at the same time, eat the same meal, drink out of the same water bottle, etc.

But I knew there was more than just superstition to optimizing my performance. With the help of one of my professors, I was able to dig deeper into the different technologies that can help athletic performance such as wearables and force plates.

There’s no doubt that these experiences helped a lot, but I’m continuing to expand my horizons by learning every day.

What do you like most about the intersection between sport and technology?

It’s something I’m passionate about, asking questions like how can we help build a better athlete by consolidating and visualizing different data sources.

I truly believe that there should be a “method behind the madness” for sports technology, meaning foundational research and data backing the decisions we make. When it comes to staying healthy, for example, it’s not so much about the injury itself, but what happened leading up to the injury that may have caused it. I believe that’s where technology can really help when it comes to deep analysis.

What are some highlights during your time with Kinduct?

While working on our Gatorade Gx Powered by Kinduct partnership, I was fortunate enough to visit some of our partners in the United States. From Palm Beach to Denver, I have been able to work with and learn from a number of  high profile organizations and athletes while seeing some amazing places along the way.

What’s your favourite thing about working for Kinduct?

The people. Kinduct is extremely inclusive and I’ve been lucky enough to learn from and grow alongside some amazing colleagues. With our group, there’s a true sense of camaraderie that mimics a sports team — a team that is striving for the same goal of helping our clients succeed.
